According to the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists, "Medical transcriptionists (MTs) are specialists in medical language and healthcare documentation who interpret and transcribe dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc., editing dictated material for grammar and clarity as necessary and appropriate."

If you don't have previous experience or training in the field of medical transcription, many colleges and organizations offer hands-on courses. Investigate your course decision thoroughly (and beware of any company that promises you a job or that you can earn thousands of dollars simply) before paying the course fees.
