Work at Home Ideas - Data Entry
by Angella Kay, The Light Keeper.com

Are you lightning-fast on a ten-key? Have tons of data entry experience? You may have what it takes to become an at-home data entry professional

Tools you'll need:

  • Computer equipped with 10-key pad

  • Knowledge of 10-key by touch

  • Special software, if specified by company (company will usually provide any software that isn't widely available)

  • A detailed resume

Data entry involves keying orders into a computer, usually into a database. You may use special software provided by the company, or a simple Access-type database, depending on the company's needs. You will need a resume that lists your data entry experience and qualifications, as well as references and a well-written cover letter.

Finding data entry jobs is a process similar to finding other types of jobs. Because of special software and tight deadlines, many companies prefer their data-entry personnel be on-site; however, many types of data entry can be done off-site, as well. You can target a field that can be specifically off-site by searching for at-home data entry jobs, or you can respond to regular data entry ads in the employment section of your newspaper to determine if any of them would be feasible in a work-at-home environment; from there, you just might be able to convince the employer that hiring a telecommuter is more cost-effective, as well as more efficient, than hiring a traditional worker.
