ADD Help We have a new epidemic in our schools. Not a communicable disease, not even a lice outbreak. It is the ability of some children to pay attention- both inside of and outside of the classroom. Each of us knows someone affected by this problem. We just may not realize it. Our opinion is that their child is "hyper" or needs some firm discipline. The truth is these kids need parents and teachers with knowledge on the subject. And yes... some do need discipline. For parents trying to get a grip on ADD and ADHD (the non-hyper version) there is help. This site has many helpful articles written for both parents and teachers.
Some teachers don't know how to handle these kids and just want to medicate them. There are things that they can do to ease the situation a bit. For instance, where they place the child in class. Easy to do and it can make a world of difference. These kids really do want to "be good." There are ways to help them and parents can find some comfort here in knowing that they've been through it. The interventions they talk about are based on school age. That is great because 8 year olds are not the same as 15 year olds, right. Well, this isn't ALWAYS true. There are links to other related sites, a free newsletter and books about Attention Deficit Disorder available. Maybe you're not satisfied with the only answer you've been given- Ritalin. You can read some of the topics on alternative treatments. If you want to be a friend to someone with ADD--- forward this today. Until next time. Until next time.
